PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND EXPERIENCE:
Mike obtained the following certifications in 2000 after beginning his career with Jefferson County: Building Inspector Certification, Plans Examiner Certification. Mike began his career in the construction industry in 1982. In 1995 Mike returned to college and in 1998 Mike completed his education and obtained degrees in Construction Management, Civil Engineering and Architecture.
After completing his education, Mike began his career as Plans Examiner for Jefferson County in March of 1999. In 2005 he was promoted to Senior Plans Examiner. He held this position until 2021 when he was promoted to Building Inspection Services Manager. He held this position until his retirement in April 2025. During his tenure with Jefferson County Mike continued his education in code enforcement through Seminars and online courses. He received continuing education units (CEU) for attending these courses to keep these certifications active. Mike's position in the supervisory position with Development Services required him to hone his skills as a problem solver as well as manage the Permitting Clerks, the Building, Plumbing, Gas, and Electrical Chiefs and the field inspectors. He was constantly in communication with Architects, Engineers, Residential Builders and General Contractors during plan review and the duration of the project after the building permit was in place. His position as the Building Division Manager required him to go to jobsites and to provide direction to General Contractors and help resolve problems that would arise during the life of the project.
